A new ultra-compact cam controller measuring only 95 x 80 x 70mm and suitable for rail-mounting has been launched by Motor Technology of Stockport.

The mini cam controller GEL 8080 has been designed and manufactured in Germany by Lenord & Bauer for applications where low-cost units are required that offer flexibility and precision control.

The GEL 8080 has inputs for 5V or 24V incremental encoders and SSI absolute encoders that can be supplied with the controllers as part of a package.

Four programmes can be selected via I/O or through a serial interface, and up to 32 cams can be controlled on eight tracks.

The units feature 12bit resolution, 4096 pulses per turn, input frequencies up to 100KHz, and networking is available for up to 31 controllers.

According to the manufacturer the GEL 8080 is user-friendly and may be operated as a stand alone unit, from a PC, or from an operator terminal, and is supplied with software for programming and operate-and-observe functions.
