Motor Technology
has added to its range of miniature encoders with the new
GEL 2444 MiniCoder, from Lenord + Bauer, with a
square-wave 5V TTL/RS422 output that is compatible with most
servo drives, motion controllers and PLCs. The range of
MiniCoders measure speed and position by the contact-less
proximity sensing of a target toothed wheel.
The scanning elements of the new encoder are contained
within a compact metal casing and are suitable for shafts
ranging in diameter from 8 to over 500mm. The magnetic
operating system provides a completely contact-free
measuring system and the sensor can be specified with a
pulse multiplication factor of up to 20 times.
The sensors can be specified for use with tooth wheels
fitted with a zero marker in the form of either a tab
exactly between two teeth, a groove, or tab over tooth.
These different methods of providing a zero marker are
recommended for low-speed applications below 30,000rpm, for
medium speeds and for speeds over 70,000rpm respectively.
The GEL 2444 is suitable for speed detection in
high-speed cutting applications, for measuring the speed and
position of milling and grinding spindles, and in machine
tools for the machining of wood, metal, glass, stone and
aluminium. The sensors are also designed to measure angles
in radar equipment, for the measurement of speed in test
stands, and for the electronic synchronisation of spindles
in dry-running vacuum pumps.
The new sensors are rated to IP68 and are suitable for use
in ambient temperatures from -40C to +120C. Lenord +
Bauer manufacture a range of standard tooth wheels up to
150mm diameter or custom tooth wheels can be supplied to
exact requirements.
Motor Technology is the UK agent for Lenord +
Bauer and can provide service and assistance across the
company’s entire range of products.
